Nettle Yarn
Stacks Image 18
These tapestries are woven with nettle yarn which I import from Nepal. It is a wonderful yarn to weave with as it varies in texture, colour and thickness. It dyes beautifully.

The nettle plant is called “Allo” and grows in mountainous areas. It grows to heights of over 3 metres and has large leaves covered with long stinging hairs, only the mature stems are used for the nettle yarn. The stems are retted and then the women spin the fibres into yarn using elaborately carved hand spindles. This yarn can be purchased through www.weaversbazaar.com.

I now sell hemp yarn which I also import from Nepal. Please contact me for prices.
